Songs of Derrick 1…

“Daughters of Jerusalem, I charge you; Do not arouse or awaken love until it so desires” – Songs of Solomon 8:4

I twist and turn in my bed.

What have you done to my heart?

All the beautiful thoughts in my head.

The fun, the joy yet the pain it starts.

Loving is like wanting to die, someone said.

But if it is as good as they say, I want to be part.

It makes me understand why the heart is always colored red.

Shaped like love, one perfect art.

Don’t play with mine, let the dead be dead.

Do not awaken my love and leave untraceable marks.

If I am ripe, my heart and your heart together we will embed.

Pluck me when I am ready, not when you see my weakening heart.

Still young, insecure, take your time to feed me with your love bread.

Let us allow time to bring my proud heart on its knees and promise me never to depart.
